Lady GaGa The Next Madonna?
Lately every time I have listened to the radio, I hear a song by Lady GaGa. "Bad Romance" is her latest hit, her melodies and chorus are very catchy and once you listen to them you have them stuck in your head all day. Lady Gaga is the new big thing in the music industry these days. She is known for her quirky style, and over the top music videos and live shows. For example her live show at the MTV music awards sparked a lot of interest. She ended with her hanging on the ceiling, covered in blood. It is just not on the radio, shes all over the news and making headlines all around the world. Her crazy outfits have every one talking and everyone wondering if shes actually a human. There are many crazy rumors out there for example one popular rumor going around is that she is actually a trans-gender. I personally don't believe that she was actually born a man. She's a lot like the queen of pop Madonna always changing her image and giving everyone something to talk about. Their sound is similar and they both have the abilities to make a hit song. Despite all Lady GaGa's crazy stunts and rumors she makes good music. She has a wonderful voice and her songs have become popular all around the world. She is not only taking the music industry by storm, but also is doing it in her own unique style. She does not conform to the conventional ways in getting noticed, and does not care what the world thinks. She is a great musician that deserves a lot of respect.
Motivation.
As I read my blogs I feel like a hypocrite, and as us young people say these days say a "hater". Most of my blogs have been about how Technology and Media are negative things that only distract us. I realized that this is not true and that i have been "hating" on it and it is wrong. Technology is not all bad, it actually makes my life easier. The internet has opened so many doors, and now we can buy, search, and view almost anything in the world. I have grown as a person and have matured alot, it has not been easy and these last six months I have used my laptop and internet as therapy. After along day I would immediately run to my computer and log on to the internet to escape all the stress from school, soccer, and my social life. I would listen to music, watch movies and youtube videos to get my mind of things. It was like my drug and I became addicted to it, it made things go away and make me feel good for a few hours. Unlike other drugs this one did not have any health consequences.
However it did have one side effect. Earlier in the year when my soccer season had just started I was lacking motivation and determination. I thought because I was now playing for a division one soccer program I had made it. My bubble was bursted when I found my self sitting on the bench and watching the game from the sidelines. I could of easily just gave up and settle for playing a few minutes towards the end of the game but instead I pushed my self a little more at practice. Late at night before I went to sleep I would open up my laptop and watch 3 to 4 videos of my favorite players to keep get me motivated for the next day's practice. Youtube helped me get a starting spot on the BC's soccer team. It help gave that extra push to keep me working. I owe technology and apology for criticizing it so much, I also owe it a thank you for helping out and making my life easier.

You Are So Gay.
"You are so gay." this is common used phrased that is used among us college students. It is used when someone does something you do not agree with. For example the other day one of my teammates was singing a song called "Party In The USA" by Miley Cyrus, and another of my teammates felt like that it was immature of him to sing that song and used this infamous phrase. I did not say anything but i for sure thought about it and I ask myself, "Whats so Homosexual about that." I have heard this phrase alot growing and I do not quite get it. Saying “That’s so gay,” is a common mistake for “That’s so dumb.” No longer does “gay” signify a joyous sensation or even always relate to homosexuality, but jumps right to the insulting position to insinuate stupidity. Well, if “gay” now means stupid, but gay also refers to homosexuality, then what are people really saying: homosexuals are crazy and stupid? It is doubtful that people even do this simple sequence when they include “gay” in their everyday vocabulary, otherwise it may not be as prevalent. The lack of thought in conversation is even more pathetic than saying it purposely. A key concept in conversation is thinking before speaking, but that apparently is no longer the trend.
My Blogging Expereince
"Blogging? umm whats that bro?" this is what my roommate Sacir said the first time he stepped into this class. I had no idea what it was so I could not answer his questions. I had always heard people talk about it but never had the curiosity to actually find out what it was. Once I found out what it was I came to realize that it was kind of fun. I never was involved in an environment were I could express my opinion about a subject without having to worry about worrying what people thought. I felt like I was a news reporter writing articles for my own newspaper ran by me. It was nice to share my thoughts and have people comment on them. It was a nice change from academic writing. I did not have to worry about being so formal and I could pretty much say what I wanted.
I did not think I was going to have fun and actually write about things that I saw going on around me. I felt so free when I wrote my blogs. I actually enjoyed doing this and as i started writing more and more i felt more comfortable. I felt like could write about more sensitive and controversial subjects as time went on. I would recommend that every one keep a blog and share their opinions about what is going on in the world today. It is like a private diary but not as private.
Looks over Talent.
It is every athletes dream to make the cover a magazine. Magazines like Sports Illustrated,Soccer America, and Rize are some of the ones athletes hope to land a cover on or maybe even a small segment. It is the ultimate to see yourself on the cover and have someone read about you and look at your picture. Before it was the athletes who dominated their sport and accomplish great things the ones who made these magazines covers. Now because everything is about making money and we are in love with materialistic things is the athletes who look good with their shirts off or in a bikini who make the front of every magazine.
Our society has become very accepting with sexuality, and it is not a big deal to have a half naked, attractive person in front of a magazine. Models dedicate their time to having the perfect body and maintain a beautiful face, it is their job to be feature in magazines. The job of an athlete is to work hard at practice so they can perform at a high level for every match. In a game, match, or race looks do not matter and will not help you win. It is an athletes willing to win, heart, and determination that gets them to the top. I am tired of seeing athletes who have not accomplish, or won any big competitions getting praised by the media. The media overrates athletes with good looks. Every one in the industry wants those athletes who look on camera to advertise there products and make an appearance in there magazines. It is not the athletes who win games, or the one who carries a team on his back and takes them to the championship the ones who get all the love and attention
For example David Beckham, he is not a bad soccer player but it is definitely not the best player on the English National Team but he is the one that every reporter wants to interview and hes the one that every female wants a picture with. Beckham has used this to his advantage and it is the reason why hes the most recognized soccer player in the world. Underwear adds for Calvin Klein, movies, and being married to a Spice Girl also have helped him earn all this recognition. He has never one a world cup but still people all over the world praise him and put him on a pedestal. He has done alot for the sport and respect his life style but at the same time he has corrupted the beautiful game of soccer.

America's Number One Trusted News Anchor: JON STEWART!?
Is it sad when the number one news channel that average American's turn to in this time of instability is a Comedy Central professional comedian? Yes! According to a Times magazine on-line poll, ever since Walter Cronkite's unfortunate death, Jon Stewart is America's Most Trusted News Anchor. Jon Stewart, host of Comedy Central's Daily Show, uses his humor to foil
top stories and his humor to uncover the truth. Stewart often uses past video recordings of Fox, CNN, and other news anchors, compares them to there more recent broadcasts and blatantly exposes they're biased reporting. While it is inevitable for an anchor to have an unbiased opinion, Jon Stewart makes an effort to bring on affiliates of outside news channels, or ambassadors of countries, or even other comedians.
I personally believe, that when America chooses a comedian over people who are amazing anchors such as Anderson Cooper, Katie Couric and Brian Williams, things need to change. Jon Stewart is undoubtly funny, and can really connect to his audience whether they are young or old. Jon goes on record claiming that he is a mere comedian but if you have seen his show you notice that his humor is used on both sides of the political scale. The reason that Jon is able to pick apart new stories and comment on politicians is because he does not have to play by the same rules as other news anchors. Ratings, while an important part of keeping the show on air, do not play such an important role in the subject matter he address. Channels such ass CNN and Fox, give in to the will of the people in that they have to address subject matter pertaining to theyre core audiences and are in constant competitian with each other. Jon's show has a less structured format then most others, like his counter-part Colbert, anchor of Colbert Report and author of a political satire, these men can take the time to dissect the new's stories in a way that no other can. The Fact that his show is on late at night only adds to his advantage. Not having to rival popular shows, Jon does what he whats when he wants, and the audience loves it.
Jon is an anomaly, a rarity that we must take advantage of while we can. Can we trust him? Who knows. Should we watch him and enjoy his humor as he intended it to be? The answer to that, is yes.
"Hardly home but always reppin' "
Being away from home can be a tough experience as some of us freshman have come to realize. Specially those who come from other states and are miles away from their hometown and family. This can make it hard to focus on school and extracurricular activities. I have now been away from my family and friends for 5 months and i can not wait to go home. It is hard not being able to be around them but because of the technology advances we have today it makes you feel like you are alittle closer to home. Things like Skype, Ichat, and other forms of communications make it easy to converse with close ones. when times get hard these applications make it easy to talk to family and that way i get to express my feelings and relieve my stress. It's like they are in the room with a me even though they are thousands of miles away. We criticize technology but it is not always negative, if it is used responsibly it can benefit us.
